"Inferno", ed. Ellen Datlow and "The Demon's Covenant"

- "Inferno"

Mixed bag. I've been dipping into it throughout the year, but I'm only going back to re-read four stories (13 O'Clock by Mike O'Driscoll, Lives by John Grant, An Apiary of White Bees by Lee Thomas [OHMIGOD], and The Suits at Auderlene by Terry Dowling). Not that the others were bad - some were unimpressive, I only really disliked Bethany's Wood (Paul Finch) and The Janus Tree (Glen Hirshberg), and the rest were generally good, but I did particularly like those four.

- "The Demon's Covenant"

I liked this much better than the first in the series, but I'm lazy, so if you're at all interested why, you're just going to be left hanging :) I feel like, with this writing, some aspect of it's so good that it makes the lacking parts glaring. That's pretty annoying. I think whatever comes after this trilogy will be better, so I'm sort of looking forward to that. This book made quite clear that there's going to be a clever overall structure to the trilogy, though, so it's not like I'm going to have to wait around for a new world to read good stuff from this author.
