"Iron Council" by China Miéville and also "Tea" by Stacey D'Erasmo

I just went through to make entries that concern book review...lets a little bit clearer in their titles, so it seems it's time for more tiny instant reviews and thus, kerblam!:

"Iron Council" - All I can say is that online, it seems there are a lot of people who weren't as impressed by this one, and I'm one of them. This was just not as interesting to me. There are a couple of appealing things across all three, and then some that only are in "Perdido Street Station" and "The Scar", so I'm not saying this book is especially bad or anything, just kind of lacking in comparison. Some elements - both theme and plot-wise - are shared with "The Scar", but somehow it doesn't seem as satisfying. China Miéville's apparently planning on writing a fourth, though - yay!

"Tea" - evocative and satisfying. That does not at all give an impression of the book that is accurate, it just describes my reading of it. Even when it's boring it's addicting. Based on the writing in this, I'd like to read more of this author.
